Description The coral garden is an ideal site for entry level divers, open water training, discover scuba diving and night dives. All year round diving can be guaranteed due to the calm protected conditions of the inshore lagoon. True colours of the marine life are more apparent due to the shallow depth.
Marine Life Blue-Spotted Ray, various types of Coral Grouper, moray eel as well as big shoals of Yellow Snapper and Surgeon Fish to name a few. On night dives it can also be common to see sleeping Turtles.

Description After a 15min drift (current dependent) to the North an outcrop of the reef is home to several territorial white-tipped reef shark which can be observed cruising back and forth along the reef edge.
Marine Life White-Tipped Reef Shark, Giant Grouper, Bull Rays, Giant Moray, Trigger Fish, Black-Fin Barracuda as well as others.

Description Just a few hundred yards further south is Sharkpoint Buoye 2, It beginns with a shallow shelf (9 meters) and gently slopes down to a max depth of 17 meters. After a gentle drift we get to a small cove in the reef, inhabited by huge shoals of damsel fish, gobies and a resident wrasse, who shares his home with a giant moray. Below this white-tipped reef shark are frequently seen resting on the sand.

Description Another favourite among our repeater clients, Brain beginns with a drift over a carpet of soft corals including Hemprich’s and Leafy soft coral and a giant dome of Lobed pore coral, resembling a brain. Patroling its perimeter are 2 large bat fish, which often show curiosity towards divers. Green turtle are often found dosing beneath its overlapping shelf.

Description The MV Dania, a de-commissioned cattle freighter, was artificially sunk for wreck diving purposes in 2002. The dive begins with a descent to 25 m down a reference line to the bow, drifting towards the stern and engine room. Big shoals of snapper and sweet lip are found hovering over her decks, as well as several large resident potato grouper. Underwater torches are used to peek inside the engine room and other openings, often spotting moray eels and lion fish. The Dania has attracted a variety of marine life that have now claimed her as their permanent home. A thrilling dive. Not for the novice diver. Weather permitting.

Description Mtwapa, a dive site just on the outer corner to the entrance of Mtwapa creek, offers a good opportunity for pelagic encounters mainly big shoals of Great and Yellowtail Barracuda, Black Trevally, and Kingfish. These are attracted to the nutrient rich water flowing in and out of the creek, this usually brings with it strong currents however and is recommended for divers with drift dive experience. A 10 meter shelf on the southern side is inhabited by Spiny Lobsters.

Description Mesa meaning Table in Swaheli gets its name from a large Table Coral at 15 Meters, it is frequented by Big Honey-combe and Bearded Moray, and large shoals of Trevally and Fusilier, a cleaning station also for Potato Grouper, Turtle and Ember Parrotfish. Due to its location north of the Creek entrance visibility can be affected by outgoing spring tides, but on a good day it is an enjoyable dive. This dive site is outside the marine park.

Learn to dive at an award-winning 5-Star PADI Dive Centre in Kenya! Certificated courses are available for every level of scuba diver, whether you’re a curious beginner or an advanced diver looking to expand your skills. The ocean around Mombasa where the courses take place teems with wildlife!

The various courses last from half a day to 5 days. You can do one or two courses, or do the whole lot and qualify as a Diving Instructor. This Optional Add-On can be done together with any other project in Kenya, giving you an exciting and diverse travel experience!

We have listed six different courses below for you to choose from, together with some information on each course. These courses are provided by an independent Dive Centre. We have arranged with the Centre to let our volunteers have a discounted rate, thus making the courses cheaper for you. Entry level course prices include all equipment, classroom sessions, pool sessions and boat trips, but do not include marine park fees. We will make the arrangements for your course in advance so that it is reserved for you when you arrive on your placement.

PADI DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING

Pre- requisite: Medical Fitness

Duration: 1 Day

Minimum age: 10

This course is designed for those that wish to get a taste of scuba diving. Basic level scuba diving theory is taught with the use of video. This is followed by a pool session where you learn basic scuba skills and gain underwater confidence. You will then go on a dive trip accompanied by an instructor. After participating in the course you may continue to dive with us during your stay in Kenya to a maximum depth of 12m with one of the Centre instructors.

PADI SCUBA DIVING

Pre- requisite: Medical Fitness

Duration: 2- 3 Days

Minimum age: 10

This course is designed for those who want to learn to dive but have insufficient time to complete the Open Water Course and those who don’t want to dive independently or below 12m. This course takes you half way to becoming an open water diver. You will participate in three theory sessions, three pool sessions and two open water dives. After the course you may continue to dive under the supervision of an instructor or dive master. If subsequently you decide to become an open water diver this course will be credited towards your open water qualification

PADI OPEN WATER REFERRAL

Pre- requisite: Medical Fitness

Duration: 4 – 5 Days

Minimum age: 10

The PADI system for diver education is modular – so you can learn to dive a piece at a time, and if you only have time for part of the course, what you’ve done won’t be wasted. We offer referral options for students who’ve already completed all pool and theory requirement.

PADI OPEN WATER

Pre- requisite:  Medical Fitness

Duration: 4 – 5 Days

Minimum age: 10

This is the PADI entry level scuba qualification. Completion of this course entitles you to dive independently with your buddy within conditions you have experienced in familiar sites. You will participate in five theory sessions, five pool sessions and four open water dives. After the course you may continue to dive under similar or better conditions than those you have experienced independently from professional supervision to a depth of 18m. There are many exciting adventure dives, specialties and courses you may participate in after achieving this qualification. Continuing your diver education will fine tune your skills, give you extra confidence and increase your experience

PADI ADVENTURE DIVER

Pre- requisite:  Medical Fitness

Duration: 1 Day Course

Minimum age:  10

This course gives the participant a taste in one or more of many exciting diving activities. Adventure dives add to the confidence and skill level of divers who participate as well as giving them skills to further their enjoyment of the underwater world. A diver becomes an adventure diver when they have completed three adventure dives of their choice. An adventure dive is also the first dive of the corresponding specialty and can be counted towards that specialty and the advanced diver certification.

An Advanced diver is a diver that has completed three adventure dives of their choice plus the deep and navigation adventure dive. This course concentrates on skill development in the open water environment, theory is minimal and there are numerous exciting skills that can be learnt. This is an extremely popular course not just because it is so much fun but because the Advanced Diver certification opens up to divers a whole new range of sites that would have been ruled out to them as Open Water Diver. Dives include:

Pre- requisite:  No diving certification is required to do this course

Duration: 1- 2 Days

This course teaches the lay person what steps to take when they are first on the scene of a medical emergency. The skills taught are applicable to both diving and non-diving emergencies. . The course covers primary (rescue breathing and CPR) care and secondary (bandaging, splinting etc) care. This course or an equivalent course is required for the rescue diver course and for all professional level PADI courses.
